A number of people were killed recently after a flash flood and landslide in the Morowali regency, Central Sulawesi, while thousands of others were isolated.
Reports said that until the 9th day of the disaster, survivors were still isolated in their villages because transportation routes were totally cut. When I was 16
years old, I lived in a house in the middle of Missouri, which my dad had
built a few years back. One evening it was storming something fierce. I was a
member of a family of 5, but my dad and I were the only people in our house
that evening.
My computer was in the
basement, so that's where I was. Suddenly the rain stopped and our smoke
detectors began howling all throughout the house. At the point the doors of
our basement swung open. It started raining hard.
We had seen storms
like this before so it wasn't anything to worry. I asked my dad to help me
close the doors then running upstairs to deal with the smoke detectors.
That's when it happened. I looked outside and the rain turned nearly
horizontal, as did the trees. Then I realized. ..there was a tornado directly
above our house.
Things started
crashing and banging and I ran as fast as I could to the closet under the
stairs. Luckily my dad came soon after. We both screamed in panic for what
seemed like 10 minutes, but in reality was about 10 seconds.
When we exited the
basement, we saw that our house was completely destroyed. The entire area was
